In order to achieve our goals, we are engaged in a series of initiatives to raise awareness of our cause. Through our annual campaigns, people affected by our cause and their families receive much needed help.
Men for Change
While approximatley 85% of victims of domestic violence are women and in her lifetime, one in four women will be victims of domestic violence; we know that these statistics do not mean that most men are batterers! In fact, many men in our community believe in healthy relationships and are willing to support S.A.F.E. Place in our fight against domestic violence! Our Men for Change movement sends the message that it is not ok for our friends, neighbors, or relatives to batter our sisters, mothers, or daughters!
STOP Program
The Calhoun County STOP project works to strengthen the existing support system serving battered adults and their children. This is done by developing and sustaining a coordinated, broad-based, community response that is committed to enhancing and improving the prevention, intervention, and elimination of domestic violence.
Community Outreach / Public Education Program
We belive that education and community awareness are essential to domestic violence prevention efforts. Our Public Education Program works to educate the public about the issues victims face, such as legal and policy issues, prevention and treatment for victims and assailants, and the social and economic barriers that force victims back to abusive situations. Our program also acts as a liaison with various media to promote awareness of the services provided by S.A.F.E. Place. In addition, we promote our "Battered Hearts: A Story of Family Violence" video that depicts victims and their children. Proceeds from the video support our residential and non-residential programs.
During FY 2009-10, we reached approximately 3,275 people through presentations and community education.
Universities, shelters, and other organizations purchased 31 DVD’s.
